Migrating servers and upgrading from 1.1.8

Post by ATAdmin »

Hi all we need some help migrating our Mantis application from a old host server to a new host server (on 123reg)

I have little experience of Mantis other than using it and even less Linux experience.

I have installed a new instance on the CPpanel of our new server hosting and I did attempt to import the database but it failed. I cant see what version of the new mantis we have where can I find this?

The 123reg support guys wont help me (its moving from an old server on their platform to a new)

Can someone help me out please and point me in the right direction?

Database export on old server and import on new server are the first steps of a migration.

So the first question is: What does "failed" mean?

Ok so you are saying my new instance is working so I should just take a backup of the database and restore it into my new database?

I am not sure if I understand your question.

All I want to say for the moment is, that database export / import is essential for a migration.
There is no chance the migrate if one of those steps fails for whatever reaason.

Read the following post to get an impression of how it works in general

what I am saying do I need a working instance of Mantis to import the existing database with all of our current data into OR do we just bring a copy of the existing database? the instructions you linked me to do not cover that side of the technicalities of doing either which is where I am currently stuck.

No, the import is done with database tools. I don't use CPanel and don't know what you can do with it.
I have full root access to my servers and use MySQL command line tools to export and import databases.
If you can't do this, phpMyAdmin might be an option for you.

Not had much luck so far so going to head slightly in a different direction. If we were to take a copy of the existing mantis database and files is there a reason we couldn't bring it back online on the new server?

There should be no big problem as long as there is no bug difference between your old and your new server.
Are the servers running the same versions of operating system, database, web server and PHP?

I am not sure on this as its a hosted service but I suspect quite a difference as our old mantis sat on what they now describe as legacy hosting. Just waiting on 123reg restoring the database now so I can test it. I cannot seem to get the database to restore myself will update you in a bit once they have done this

Ok everything I have tired so far has not worked so I am starting again.

Mantis is installed on new hosting and has a database already set up as part of it. if we export our old database and import it to the new database the data doesn't seem to come across, there's no users or history of bugs etc so what are we doing wrong? There's no errors when importing the data so the hosting company tells me. At a bit of a loss now.

It seems to be something to do with the importing. the host company are using command line to import our existing data into the blank database they get no errors but also no data appears, if I use myphpadmin I get an error on importing
