Manage Global Profiles
Last Modified: April 17, 2005 17:04PM
(Introduced in 1.0.0)
Description

This page allows the definition of global profiles accessible to all users of the system. It is similar to the user definition of a profile consisting of Platform, OS and Version.

As far as I can tell it just sets up an operating system "profile" that can be used from any project managed by mantis. For example, this would be useful if you were developing software to run on Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Fedora Core 4. When users enter a new bug (they might need to expand the bug report page by clicking the "Advanced Report" link in the top right) they can set which operating system configuration they were using when the bug was encountered. This can hopefully help the developer to pin down problems if they are OS specific.

Not sure if this is 100% correct but it seems like a useful possibilty!

To give a concrete example..

Platform: x86 (intel processor, 32bit)
OS: Windows
OS Version: XP w Service Pack 2

or

Platform: AMD_64 (amd processor, 64bit)
OS: Fedora Core
OS Version: 4

hope this helps!

When I click the "Manage Global Profiles" option, all I get is

Application error #12 -- This Account is protected

What am I supposed to do about this?

The documentation is very minimal on this. I'd like to be able to expand this feature with custom profile properties, and the required fields shouldn't be required.
- I don't care about platform so I'm using 'PC'.
- I am using .NET so I'd like to see reports classified as .NET 1.1 or .NET 2.0.
- I'm working with client/server so I sometimes need to know the platform info for both the client and server - so I need essentially two profile boxes in the report page.
- I'm also dealing with databases, so when a client connects to a target server I need to know not only the OS and release but also the DBMS.

I'm probably going to remove profiles from the report page and just use more custom fields.

Like others, maybe I just don't understand how this was designed to work.

Yes, I should developers described at least what some fields (like this) was primary designed for.
