And which access method do you use?
I'm using Exchange 2010, and have had problems getting IMAP to work, though POP3 worked.
I've also used a Gmail mailbox with both POP3 and IMAP.
I know of a successfully installed Linux mail server of some sort (i'm not very knowledgeable of Linux-y things) with IMAP
I'm wondering, specifically, if older versions of Exchange support IMAP...

Re: Which mail server do you use?
I'm using the following
- POP3 towards Exchange 2000
- POP3 towards Exchange 2010
- POP3 towards Mercury/32 (pmail)
- IMAP towards Mercury/32 (pmail)
- POP3 towards a QNAP NAS with Xdove
- IMAP towards a QNAP NAS with Xdove
- POP3 towards gmail
- IMAP towards gmail
- POP3 towards xmail
- IMAP towards xmail
- POP3 towards xeams
- IMAP towards xeams (works but with some protocol errors that seem to not be a problem for normal operation)
I've seen EmailReporting being used with
- IMAP towards Kerio Mailserver
- POP3 towards Exchange 2000
- POP3 towards Exchange 2010
- POP3 towards Mercury/32 (pmail)
- IMAP towards Mercury/32 (pmail)
- POP3 towards a QNAP NAS with Xdove
- IMAP towards a QNAP NAS with Xdove
- POP3 towards gmail
- IMAP towards gmail
- POP3 towards xmail
- IMAP towards xmail
- POP3 towards xeams
- IMAP towards xeams (works but with some protocol errors that seem to not be a problem for normal operation)

IMAP with SSL to Dovecot IMAP server. I am using a self-signed SSL certificate. It works great!
