How to have the filter fields show up as inputs directly?

By default you have to click the name of the filter type you want to set, and then wait for the value text change into an input field / select item.

I find this to be quite cumbersome when searching large databases with ever changing search queries. So I'm looking for a way to have the input fields / select lists show up directly when the page is loaded. No more clicking needed. I've looked around in the code a bit, but couldn't find how/where it all happens and how to change it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
