Mantis as Task Manager/ Project manager?

We have used Mantis ver 1.03 for 4 months now, and used it for two different purposes:
1. As support system for own software projects. In this purpose Mantis meets our needs and requirements very well.
2. As a more general Task manager /Project manager System. We have added som extra fields as due date etc, and find that Mantis in many ways is very useful also for this purpose.

But we would like to have some more alternatives for reports and overwiew. We do not think it is necessary to integrate with special project systems as suggested many places in the forum. We mainly need some more flexibility in choosing
- what columns to display in the overview
- What information to show in the reports.

Has anyone some proposals to how we can make this - as simple as possible?
