mantis and josso single sign on

I am trying to add josso single signon ability to mantis. It was easy enough configuring josso ...but mantis seems to have it's own complex authorization scheme ..or at least it seems that way. I notice that auth_is_user_athorized gets called about 20 times just in index.php and core.php. Does anyone know if i can configure and set some variables to enable josso to do it's job ? Or do I need to strip alot of authorization code out of mantis.
