Upgrade mantis 1.0.6 to 1.2.3

I would like to Upgrade mantis 1.0.6 to 1.2.3.
Are there any risks? Is it better to do the upgrade or to have the new version 1.2.3 and to use the database used with the older version 1.0.6(my database is created with mysql of easyphp 2.0).I have already tried to use the database with the new version and i have not encounter any problem)?
Are there any documents that describe improvements and new features of mantis 1.2.3 and a comparison mantis 1.2.3 vs mantis 1.0.6?

There are always risks when updating any software. Do a backup before starting. A dump of your database and a copy of the installation directory of your old MantisBT version should be enough

I don't understand what you mean with this. You can not use the database of version 1.0.6 with version 1.2.3. You have to upgrade the database schema, which is done by the installation process of MantisBT 1.2.3

I have another question please: Is downloading the last version of mantis and upgrading the database the only way to update mantis?
Is there another way to do this(update mantis from the old version without downloading the new version)?

I recently upgraded my Mantis 1.0.6 to Mantis 1.2.3. I had faced some issues, and Atrol helped me to fix those issues. And Mantis 1.2.3 is better..

I need to update from 1.6.0 to the latest version but the document in the previous post does not open. Can anyone help me with the procedure please? BTW Running Windows Server 2012 and the latest php.
