ITIL Compliancy

Post by Jahwe »

Hi,

Let me start with a short introduction, I'm Robin, an employee of an IT company with 500+ employees. I'm currently leading a project to develop an alternative system for our incident and time tracking utility (Remedy system).

Of course I don't want to re-invent the wheel so we were looking for open source utility and selected Mantis as approaching most of our requirements out of the other contenders (48% met so still quite some work).

As in my company we work inline with ITIL (I'm also ITIL certified) there are a number of features like SLA etc which would need to be added for the utility to be fully inline with what we need.

I saw in the bug tracking system for Mantis that there was already a feature request for ITIL compliancy. This is a big job and as my team will be doing a chunck of that, my suggestion was (and still is) to open a number of new child requests on the ITIL compliancy feature so it is dividable. People from my team will pick these up but I was also hoping that people from the community would pick up parts and even contribute to adding features.

So I'm raising this topic to see if there is an interest in ITIL compliancy for Mantis?

In my opinion ITIL compliancy would be a big step up for Mantis to be interesting to a larger public of professional companies. But I would like to hear other views, opinions, ideas,...

Jahwe, I don't know enough about ITIL compliancy and what is involved in this. I think the best way to approach this is to come up with a requirements page that indicates what has to be done for Mantis to be ITIL compliant. Once we understand that, then we can create the work items as children to the main issue. At this stage, we also decide how the problem can be approached. For example, I have a feeling that such compliance work should be added as a plugin to Mantis, using the plugin infrastructure introduced in Mantis 1.2.0 development branch.

See the page below for some sample requirements page. The requirements page will be the wiki page associated with the issue already reported.

vboctor,

thanks for the wiki page, good idea to approach it in a structured way with requirements and follow up changes.

I will start picking this up somewhere this evening.

You are welcome. Hopefully once we have set requirements, it is more likely to get some traction with this feature.
