Character Set for Mantis 1.08

I try to use Excel thru MySQL ODBC driver to import data from mantis 1.08. But, all Chinese characters are loaded as garbage characters. I tried different character sets, such as UTF8, Big5, GB2312, GBK for ODBC connection but no luck. I wonder whether special character set is used for Mantis 1.08. Or, there is special setup needed for ODBC connection?
