Summary0007939: Port 7738: Replace non free RSS creation class
Description

As discussed in:

http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.bug-tracking.mantis.devel/1227

We should replace as soon as possible the file class.RSSBuilder.inc.php

I evaluated some options and determined that http://feedcreator.org looks like a good replacement (though last release was in 2005)

So bug can be closed

i'm not really programming php anymore, so i guess it's no problem if you use the classes. i'll write a short news entry on http://sourceforge.net/projects/php-flp/ that the rss classes are under gpl now, but i won't update the classes itself right now.

regards,
michael

This is a good news.

IANAL, but I think we can not still use the class because the change is not retroactive, that is, the terms under we are incorporating the class can not change. He should release a new one (or even the SAME one) with the updated terms.

If he has no time to do that, what he could do (and I would be grateful if you could ask him) is send us (or you) an explicit, signed message where he grant the mantis project the right to use its class under GPL license.

send us (or you) an explicit, signed message where he grant the
mantis project the right to use its class under GPL license.

... and that is exactly what he did, read HIS message below the
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----...

If that is not enough ;) but in his class sourcecode there is his email address link, feel free to ask for even more explicit message. IDEA: one can become a developer for his class on sf.net and change the code oneself if he has no time.

Thanks

I meant the COMPLETE signed message, you stripped out the actual signature...

btw, yes, I also think the wording on the message is not explicit enough. The idea of helping him for the new release is probably good, assuming the problem is lack of time and he is willing to aadd someone else to the project.

Are you willing to try this path?

Anyway, thanks a lot for your help

I've committed an update to this class in both Mantis branches 1.0.x and 1.1.x indicating that the license changed to GPL and referring to the link. It would be great if someone can request developer / release access to the project and make this update and release.
