Summary0011644: Instructions for setting up sql db to use UTF-8 collation
DescriptionUsers of non-english charsets are unable to see their native language on fresh install of Mantis because of the db collation setting. Adding instructions or a footnote to the installation instructions would help those users and stop the associated forum posts and bug reports.

discussion and various fixes can be found here in the forums

If you're talking about fresh installations, the problem is not caused by MantisBT. Instead, the person creating the database should be setting the default collation for the database to utf8 before installation, so that when MantisBT creates tables the database will automatically set the table/field collations based on the database's default setting.

If you need to convert an existing database/table/field collations to utf8, there are plenty of resources on Google for how to go about this.

There was alot of people running into this issue so i had suggested on the forums to add this to the mantis install doc as a gotcha even though it has nothing to do with mantis. Then Atrol suggested i create a bug report so that it could be tracked.

Also requiring first time East-asian adopters of mantis to have to look up on google to get the mantis installed is going to prevent alot of people from ever installing mantis. Also, I'd also like to point out that alot technical answers are typically provided in English, and the resources available to the Asian language community is particularly lacking.

I'm not saying we include various instructions for the different dbs out there, but just a friendly note that says "hey, you may run into issues if your language isn't english, but can be remedied by setting your db collation to utf-8 before installation. Please refer to your db documentation for instructions on how to do so."

Could this be tagged onto the following bugnote, as it seems to be better aligned for a FAQ since this question has come up numerous times.
